Disclosed is a crystalline form of azithromycin, which is substantially pure crystalline azithromycin monohydrate hemi-ethanol solvate. Also disclosed is a method of preparing the above form, comprising: (a) dissolving azithromycin in 1-3 volumes ethanol, at 50-70C, (b) completely dissolving the above azithromycin in ethanol, (c) cooling to cause precipitation, (d) collecting azithromycin crystalline, and (e) drying the azithromycin crystalline to obtain the crystalline form.
