FIELD: technology for studying substances using electromagnetic fields, possible use for detecting and identifying different substances in stationary and mobile control systems. ^ SUBSTANCE: measured firstly and recorded into memory is information about characteristic spatial-frequency signs of substances, subject to detection and identification, and then, using aforementioned information, local non-adiabatic fluctuation of electromagnetic field is generated and applied into area of assumed location of concealed substance, which fluctuation carries aforementioned information and response of aforementioned field is registered by changing heterogeneousness characteristics in polarization of local fluctuation of field and low frequency pulsations, caused by interaction of substances, positioned in aforementioned area, with aforementioned field, and on basis of comparison of received characteristics to same for concealed substance being searched for, conclusion about its presence among given substances is drawn. Also, device for realization of aforementioned method is proposed. ^ EFFECT: increased sensitivity and selectiveness, thus decreasing percentage of false activations. ^ 2 cl, 1 ex, 10 dwg
