A power detector using a mixer and a power detecting method are provided to convert a frequency through a mixer and detect only a low frequency signal from a converted signal, and produce the strength of power of a signal outputted in an amplifier from the amplitude of the converted signal, thereby detecting power in a wider range and easily integrating the power detector with a PA MMIC(Power Amplifier Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuit) within a terminal. A high frequency filter unit(210) detects only the signal having a high frequency from an input signal. An amplifying unit(220) amplifies the high frequency signal detected in the high frequency filter unit(210). A mixer(230) receives one or more high frequency signals amplified in the amplifying unit(220) and mixes the received signals, and then outputs the mixed signal. A low frequency filter(240) detects only a DC(Direct Current) signal in the signal outputted from the mixer(230).
