PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electrophoretic particles which have carbon black particles uniformly dispersed inside thereof, and an electrophoretic display device which uses the particles and has excellent display characteristics. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic particles include the carbon black particles and a polymer body to coat the carbon black particles, wherein a compound A having a radical generating group and a reactive roup 1 is bonded to surfaces of the carbon black particles via the radical generating group of the compound A, and a compound B having a polymerizable functional group and a reactive roup 2 is bonded to the compound A via a chemical bond between the reactive roup 1 of the compound A and the reactive roup 2 of the compound B, and further is bonded to the polymer body via the polymerizable functional group.
