PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer of reduced size while aiming at the coexistence of a printing quality and printing rate even at a low cost. SOLUTION: When the inkjet printer is powered up, or just after a predetermined number of sheets are continuously printed, a distance X as a correction value for the stop position of a carrier 8 is computed from the output of an encoder by a motor controlling circuit. In controlling the stopping of the carrier 8 at the time of printing and performing the maintenance of a recording head, the variation of the stopping position of the carrier 8 is inhibited by correcting the position in which a brake voltage starts to be applied to a carrier driving motor according to the distance X.
