Disclosed is a membrane electrode assembly for fuel cells which is reduced in size and increased in power output by reducing the internal resistance in the electrode. Also disclosed is a fuel cell comprising such a membrane electrode assembly. Specifically disclosed is a membrane electrode assembly having an electrolyte membrane, an electrode and a collector. This membrane electrode assembly is characterized in that the electrode and the collector are arranged in the same one layer. Also specifically disclosed is a fuel cell comprising such a membrane electrode assembly.
