<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen production system capable of producing a hydrogen-containing gas which does not cause catalyst degradation and has a low impurity content, and a fuel cell system using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The hydrogen production system 110 is equipped with a pair of reactors 112 and 114, which are capable of switching between a reforming reaction and a combustion reaction, and a control part 170 that switches a raw material supplied to each reactor between a raw material for reforming and a raw material for heat generation so that the reactors 112 and 114 can alternately perform the reforming reaction and the combustion reaction. The reactors 112 and 114 are each equipped with a catalyst 162, a trapping material for sulfur etc. 164 and a soot-trapping material 166. When supplied with gasoline and a cathode off-gas, the reactors perform the reforming reaction of gasoline etc. on the heated catalyst 162 to produce the hydrogen-containing gas. When supplied with an anode off-gas and combustion air, the reactors perform the combustion reaction of the anode off-gas to heat the catalyst 162.
