PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily set a door holding opening in multiple stages in a door checker for an automobile. SOLUTION: This door checker for the automobile comprises a case 1 fixed to the door D of the automobile, a check lever 6 swingably pivoted on a body B movably through the case 1 and having a rack 17 on one side face, a pinion 20 meshed with the rack 17 and rotatably stored in the case 1, a movable shoe 31 stored in the case 1 so as to be engaged with and disengaged from the tooth part 20a of the pinion 20a, and a check spring 32 energizing the movable shoe 31 in the engagement direction with the pinion 20.
