PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent distortion of a toner image due to flow of a fixing solution during imparting the fixing solution to the toner image and insufficient fixing of a toner image having a large toner amount on a recording medium, to stably obtain images of high image quality over a prolonged period of time, and to reduce the consumption of the fixing solution, in an image forming apparatus by a wet fixing system using the fixing solution. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus 1 comprising a toner image forming device 2, an intermediate transfer device 3 including an intermediate transfer belt 21, an intermediate transfer medium heating device 4, a fixing solution imparting device 5, a transfer fixing device 6, a recording medium feeding device 7 and a discharge device 8, a coating roller 32 which comes in pressure contact under rotation with a toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 21 to impart the fixing solution 35 has an elastically deformable porous layer capable of holding the fixing solution 35 on a surface thereof.
