PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electrophoretic particles which have a pigment uniformly dispersed inside the particles, and an electrophoretic display device which uses the particles and has excellent display characteristics and excellent driving stability. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic particles include pigment particles having hydroxyl groups and/or carboxyl groups on their surfaces and a high polymer to coat the pigment particles, wherein a compound which has affinity to the monomer of the high polymer and is not polymerizable is bonded to the hydroxyl groups and/or the carboxyl groups on the surfaces of the pigment particles.
