PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electrophoretic particles which have excellent driving stability and in particular have high blackness in using carbon black as an inorganic pigment by uniformly dispersing the inorganic pigment in the electrophoretic particles, and to provide a method for manufacturing the electrophoretic particles. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic particles include inorganic pigment particles having hydroxyl groups and/or carboxyl groups on their surfaces and a polymer body to coat the inorganic pigment particles. A compound expressed by a general formula (I) R-X is bonded to the hydroxyl groups and/or the carboxyl groups on the surfaces of the inorganic pigment particles via the functional group X, and further is bonded to the polymer body via the functional group R. In the formula, R represents a polymerizable functional group, X represents a group having reactivity with the hydroxyl groups and/or the carboxyl groups. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
