PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surveying system and its handling method easily surveying the horizontality (verticality) of structure such as a building by allowing the horizontality of the surveying device main body to be obtained easily and surely. SOLUTION: The surveying device 20 comprises: the horizontal adjusting base device 29; the azimuth adjusting rotation base device 30 provided on the horizontal adjusting base device 29: the angle of elevation adjusting base device 33 provided on the azimuth adjusting rotation base 30; the light source 34 for irradiating the side of the plum bob device 27 placed on the base device 33 and provided on an optional position on the floor a; and the light detector 43 for detecting reflected light g1 from at least 2 points of the plum bob 27a(27b) of the plum bob device 27.
