Sewing and cutting continuous large fabric assembly, e.g. for mattress cover, includes tilting roller frame between sewing and cutting station to compensate for transverse sewing motion

Large continuous fabrics (4) are forwarded for sewing in a multi-needle sewing station (1) and then passed on to a treatment station (3) where they are cut to size. During sewing the fabrics are also moved at right angles to the forwarding direction in order to give the required stitch pattern. A tilting guide roller frame (22), which is linked to the sewing machine traverse (11), is placed between the sewing (1) and cutting (3) stations to compensate for the angular displacement. An independent claim is included for the process of sewing and cutting large fabric assemblies that includes an angular compensating frame (22) between sewing and cutting to give a precise fabric location at entry to the cutting station (3). The rollers (33, 35, 36) on the tilting frame (22) are arranged to take the fabrics in a U-shaped path, with the hinge point vertically below the inlet roller (33). The linkage to the sewing machine traverse (11) can be mechanical (25) with elastic damping or electronic with data processing facilities.
