<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device for obtaining video with high quality without affecting subsequent image processing by allowing the image to be easily viewed, and to provide an image processing method. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device for correcting the luminance signal of a digital image when the image is displayed by an input signal includes: a means 3 for generating a control point by the use of the luminance signal; a means 4 for generating a curved line approximating the generated control point; and a means 6 for performing luminance processing by the generated approximate curved line.
