PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately recognize only an REID tag 1 incidental to a sheet material S necessary for reading/writing of a reader/writer 2 and thereby to implement stable communication. SOLUTION: The sheet carrying device 30 has the reader/writer 2 performing communication with the RFID tag 1 incidental to the sheet material S to communicate with the RFID tag 1 of the sheet material passing in a carrying path 43. A maximum communicable distance A between the reader/writer 2 in the carrying path 43 and the RFID tag 1 in the carrying path 43 is smaller than the sum of an interval K between the sheet materials S which are continuously carried in the carrying path 43 and the length L in a carrying direction of the sheet material S.
