PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which is little affected by rubbing between the end edge of a heating body and the inside surface of a fixing sleeve and has long life as a result. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: the heating body; a heating body holding member for fixedly holding the heating body; the fixing sleeve with a flexible endless belt type metal base layer which slides along the heating body; and a pressure member which forms a nip together with the heating body through the fixing sleeve. The fixing operation is performed at the nip part while holding and transporting a material to be heated by the fixing sleeve and the pressure member, and the heating body projects over the heating body holding member toward the sliding surface, the shape of the end edge part of the sliding part of the projecting heating body is≥R0.2.
