PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material testing machine constituted so as to accurately recognize the frequency response characteristics of a system including the testing machine and a testpiece by simple setting to achieve the simplification of preparatory work during a fatigue test or the like. SOLUTION: A means for setting the amplitude and frequency range of a repeating waveform is provided and the driving of a load mechanism (hydraulic cylinder) 14 is controlled so as to apply testing force to the testpiece W under a set amplitude condition while successively changing frequency within the set frequency range automatically in the mounting state of the testpiece W while the output of a force detecting means 16 at every frequency is loaded and a graph expressing the frequency response characteristics of a system including the testpiece W is formed to perform output such as display or the like. By this constitution, an operator recognizes the frequency response characteristics of the system including the testpiece W only by performing simple setting work to easily determine the upper limit value or the like of set frequency during an actual test.
