PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor accurately detecting an abnormal state at an entrance. SOLUTION: A moving handrail 8 is engaged with an outer periphery of a railing 2 to be circulative. A plurality of pressure sensors 21 are disposed to an outer periphery of a newel part 2a disposed on a side part of the entrance, at an regular intervals in a longitudinal direction of the moving handrail 8. The pressure sensors 21 detect pressure in a direction pressing the moving handrails 8 against the outer periphery of the newel part 2a. An operation control device detects the abnormal state at the entrance, when pressure values higher than a reference value are simultaneously detected by the predetermined number or more of continuous pressure sensors 21.
