PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver and a television receiving method capable of continuously executing a function to be viewed even when program data selected by a user can not be received. SOLUTION: A DTV application part 107 receives a plurality of service IDs and a plurality of pieces of program data corresponding to the service IDs based on a physical channel of the program data selected by the user according to an EPG. A display part 104 displays program data corresponding to one service ID selected by the user from among the plurality of pieces of received program data. Here, when one service ID selected by the user does not exist in the plurality of service IDs of received airwaves in the DTV application part 107, program data based on a primary service ID is displayed on the display part 104.
