PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and compact wide-angle lens having satisfactory optical characteristics and a wide view angle as an imaging lens system for a solid imaging element with a four-lens configuration. SOLUTION: The wide angle lens comprises, in order from the object side: a first lens of a negative meniscus shape, the convex face of which faces on the object side; a second lens both sides of which are concave; a third lens both sides of which are convex; and a fourth lens of a positive meniscus shape, the convex face of which faces the image side.
