PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device with high reliability without complicating the device. SOLUTION: This vehicle control device controlling own vehicle based on a road condition in a traveling direction of own vehicle comprises position estimation means 14 for estimating a position of own vehicle, first road shape detection means 15 for detecting a road condition in a traveling direction of own vehicle whose position is estimated by the position estimation means based on map data 16, second road condition detection means 19 for detecting a road shape in a traveling direction of own vehicle based on image data picked up by pick-up means 17 picking up images of the road in the traveling direction of own vehicle, comparison means 20 for comparing road shapes detected by the first and second road shape detection means, and vehicle control restraining means 21 for restraining control of own vehicle when road shapes are different as a result of comparison with the comparison means.
