PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method wherein a plurality of patterns and/or characters are printed on a medium in such a manner as to be vertically arranged in a plurality of lines, and wherein the plurality of patterns and/or characters are cut along a desired cut line. SOLUTION: A print-position specification mark 22 of the pattern and/or the character, a print type identification mark 20 of the pattern and/or the character, and a print-direction identification mark 20 of the pattern and/or the character are printed on the part of the medium 10 around a print section 11 on which the patterns and/or the characters are printed. Data on the position, kind, size, and vertical and horizontal directions of the pattern and/or the character printed inside the marks are read from the marks 20 and 22; and the patterns and/or the characters printed inside the marks 20 and 22 are cut along the desired cut line 12, on the basis of the data.
