An output energy use efficiency at a light source is improved, while achieving reduction in device sizes and production cost. In an information recording/reproducing device (RP), a light path of an optical beam outputted from a first semiconductor laser (11) (for instance, for BD) and that of an optical beam outputted from a light source unit (12) (for CD and DVD) are synthesized by a first dichroic mirror (13), and a beam is applied on a light path separating/synthesizing section (17), while making the light paths of the both optical beams substantially the same. In the light path separating/synthesizing section (17), (a) the optical beam for BD is guided to a first objective lens (181), and (b) the optical beam for CD or DVD is guided to a second objective lens (182). The optical beams, which are outputted through the same light path and correspond to each recording format, are separated at the light path separating/synthesizing section (17), are permitted to enter the different objective lenses (181, 182), respectively, and are applied on optical discs (DK).
