LENS BARREL

A lens barrel has an imaging optical system capable of changing a focal length; a movable lens group constituting the imaging optical system and moving in the optical axis direction when the focal length is changed; an imaging element provided at an image forming surface of the imaging optical system and taking an image of an object; and a shutter unit provided between the movable lens group and the imaging element and having a shutter blade for blocking an imaging light flux passing through the imaging optical system. The position of the principal point of the imaging optical system moves as the movable lens group moves in the optical axis direction. The shutter unit is placed such that the distance between the shutter blade and the movable range end point of the movable lens group is less than the distance between the imaging element and the shutter blade.
