A pharmaceutical composition, which contains a bone morphogenetic factor (bone morphogenetic protein 7: BMP-7) as an active ingredient, suppresses the proliferation of HCV and is for the prevention or treatment of viremia caused by HCV infection is disclosed. The pharmaceutical composition of the invention is particularly useful for the prevention or treatment of a liver disease caused by HCV infection. The pharmaceutical composition of the invention containing BMP-7 as an active ingredient may be administered alone or concomitantly with a preparation containing interferon (IFN) as an active ingredient or a preparation containing ribavirin as an active ingredient.
