PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external preparation for skin comprising a new ingredient having excellent bleaching effects. SOLUTION: The external preparation for skin comprises a compound represented by general formula (1) [wherein, A represents a -(CR<SB>2</SB>R<SB>3</SB>)<SB>n</SB>- äwherein, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>represent each independently a hydrogen atom, a 1-4C alkyl group, a 2-4C alkenyl group, a halogen, an OR<SB>4</SB>or an NR<SB>5</SB>R<SB>6</SB>(wherein, R<SB>4</SB>, R<SB>5</SB>and R<SB>6</SB>represent each independently a hydrogen atom, a 1-4C alkyl group or a 2-4C alkenyl group); and n is 1-3}; and R<SB>1</SB>represents a hydrogen atom, a 1-8C alkyl group, a 2-8C alkenyl group, a 3-8C cycloalkyl group, a 2-12C aryl group, a 3-12C arylalkyl group or a 1-12C acyl group].
