PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass suitable for use in a variety of polymer molding processes including extrusion and injection molding. SOLUTION: The chalcogenide glass, which has a general chemical formula: YZ, is characterized in that in the above formula, Y is Ge, As, Sb or a mixture of two or more of these elements; Z is S, Se, Te or a mixture of two or more of these elements; in terms of atomic or elemental percentages, Y is in the range of 15-70%, Z is in the range of 30-85%; and when Ge is mixed with either or both of As and Sb, the amount of Ge is in the range of >0% and <25%.
