The system has an exhaust purification system including a filter unit (1) e.g. diesel particle filter, with a substrate material, on which pollutants from exhaust gas get deposited. The substrate material contains a phase change material with a phase change temperature. The phase change temperature lies above an ignition temperature of the pollutants and lies below a melting temperature of the substrate material. An independent claim is also included for a method for removal of pollutants from the exhaust gas of a motor vehicle by an exhaust purification system.
