摘要 The invention relates to a polynucleotide molecule, or a complementary strand, that encodes on expression the entire, a truncated form or a fragment of the SERPINAl protein (GenBank® accession no: X01683), wherein the polynucleotide is substantially as the SERPINAl gene (as defined in the human contig sequence of GenBank® accession no: AL132708) and includes a SNP at one or more of the following positions 1973 (126076), 65 (128113) , 69 (128117), 9995 (138147) , 11487 (139535), 1716 (126333), 7527 (135575) and 7680 (135728) . Also disclosed is a method for the diagnosis or detection of one or more single nucleotide polymorphisms in the SERPINAl gene, as defined by GenBank® accession no: AL132708, which method comprises determining the sequence of the SERPINAl gene at one or more of positions 1973 (126076), 65 (128113), 69 (128117), 9995 (138147), 11487 (139535), 1716 (126333), 7527 (135575) and 7680 (135728) , and a method for the diagnosis or prognosis of COPD, or for determining an individual's susceptibility or predisposition to COPD, wherein the method comprises detecting the presence or absence SNPs in the SERPINAl gene by determining the nucleotide at one or more of the following positions 1973 (126076) , 65 (128113), 69 (128117), 9995 (138147) , 11487 (139535), 1716 (126333), 7527 (135575) and 7680 (135728) in the SERPINAl gene as defined by GenBank® accession number: AL132708.
