PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an album having well balanced contents.

SOLUTION: An album creating apparatus is provided with an image storing section for storing a plurality of images; an image classifying section for classifying the plurality of images stored in the image storing section per event based on the image pickup environment of the images; a main image selecting section for selecting a main image as a principal image in an album per event classified by the image classifying section from the plurality of images stored in the image storing section; a sub-image selecting section for selecting a sub-image as an image subordinate to the main image selected by the main image selecting section in the album per event classified by the image classifying section from the plurality of images stored in the image storing section; and a layout deciding section for deciding a layout of the main image selected by the main image selecting section and the sub-image selected by the sub-image selecting section in the album on the basis of the contents of the main image selected by the main image selecting section and the contents of the sub-image selected by the sub-image selecting section.
