PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain such a reproduced image as excellent as possible. SOLUTION: When having been instructed to reproduce a still image, a reproducing image is frozen (S401) and then an ABS truck number within a sub cord 25 is stored as the present truck number (S402) and further a final truck number in an ECC unit next to an ECC unit containing the present truck number is calculated based on the present truck number (S403). Furthermore, after the next truck had been reproduced (S404), when a truck number in reproduction has transferred to the final truck number (YES in S405, S406), a magnetic recoding tape 1 is stopped from running. By controlling thus a stopping position of the magnetic recoding tape 1, when reproducing the still image, a magnetic head can scan a marginal portion of the two ECC units, thus enabling the number of errors uncorrectable among reproducing data to be reduced.
