PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high productivity by skimming through and size reduction of a device. SOLUTION: The image reader has a contact image sensor 24 for reading an image on one face of a moving original manuscript transferred on a platen 18, a movable scanner unit 204 for reading an image on the other face of the moving original manuscript, transferred on the platen 18 or that of on the other face of a still original manuscript placed on the platen 18, and a back-side image copying prevention member 30 for preventing the back-side image copying of the original manuscript at a position facing the contact image sensor 24. The back-side image copying prevention member 30 is provided so as to be movable from a first position facing the contact image sensor 24 to a second position that will not interfere the image reading by the scanner unit 204.
