PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a far-infrared heater having high energy intensity and much radiation quantity of far-infrared rays, having high mechanical and thermal strength, and having no restriction of a usage environment. SOLUTION: The far-infrared heater comprises a rod shaped heating element 2 formed of carbon or silicon carbide, and a translucent alumina ceramic cylindrical protecting tube 3 with the heating element 2 air-tightly housed. The protecting tube 3 has a thickness of 0.5-5 mm, and total transmission of an electromagnetic wave of a 0.4-6μm wavelength is 80% or more. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
