PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suitable measuring method for magnetic characteristics of a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic body pattern structure. SOLUTION: The method for measuring the magnetic characteristics of the magnetic recording medium composed by inlaying a magnetic body pattern on a nonmagnetic material layer has the processing of performing magnetic field calculation from the periphery of an inlaid magnetic body pattern and the processing of obtaining the magnetization of the inlaid magnetic body pattern from magnetic field strength obtained from the magnetic field calculation. In the process of obtaining the magnetization of the inlaid magnetic body pattern, the magnetization of the inlaid magnetic body pattern is obtained by micromagnetics calculation in the case that the size of the inlaid magnetic body pattern exceeds a critical length W, and the magnetization of the inlaid magnetic body pattern is obtained by simultaneous inverted model calculation in the case that the size of the inlaid magnetic body pattern does not exceed the critical length W.
