PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acetylene-based polymer in which a high-molecular weight acetylene-based polymer can be produced in high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing the acetylene-based polymer comprises polymerizing an acetylene compound having a substituent at -50 to 10°C polymerization temperature in the presence of an organometallic complex catalyst. In the method for producing the acetylene-based polymer, the organometallic complex catalyst is preferably a compound represented by general formula (I): [ML<SB>m</SB>L'<SB>n</SB>]<SB>p</SB>X<SB>q</SB>(wherein M is an element selected from the groups 7-10; L is a ligand derived from a compound having a multiple bond; L' is a ligand derived from a compound having a lone pair; X is an anion; m is an integer of 0-7; n is an integer of 0-6; p is an integer of 1-2; q is an integer of 0-2; m+n is an integer of≥1).
