PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image recording and erasing apparatus capable of erasing an image electronically recorded by handwriting on electronic paper by the electronic paper used for recording of the image. SOLUTION: A power source 20 for supplying electric power to generate an electric field to be applied to the electronic paper 30 and the voltage application path between a body side electrode 16 and a load part side electrode 12 are changed over in such a manner that the directions of the electric fields generated between the body side electrode 16 disposed at the front end of a recording and erasing body 14 and the load part side electrode 12 loaded with the electronic paper 30 are reversed at the time of the execution of the image recording function for recording the image by the movement of the recording and erasing body 14 in the state that the end with respect to the display surface of the electronic paper 30 opposes to the display surface of the electronic paper 30 and at the time of the execution of the image erasing function of erasing the image recorded on the display surface of the electronic paper 30 by the execution of the image recording function by the movement of the recording and erasing body 14 in the state that the end opposes to the display surface of the electronic paper 30.
