PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range detection device with good assembling property. SOLUTION: The range detection device is provided with a turning body turned interlocked with a range selector; a spool 24 engaged with the turning body and moved in an axial direction when the turning body is turned to control the feeding oil pressure to a friction engagement element; a first output shaft 75 projected from the spool 24 perpendicular to an axis of the spool; a movable body 44 having a long hole 63 extending at a position spaced from the axis on a virtual straight line vertically crossed to the axis of the spool 24 so as to be vertically crossed to the virtual plane defined by the axis and the virtual straight line and inserted with the first output shaft 75 and restricting turning of the spool 24 by abutting on the first output shaft 75 when the spool 24 is turned around the axis; a fixing body 42 for reciprocably supporting the movable body 44 in parallel to the axis of the spool 24; and a detection part 40 having a range detection means for detecting a range position based on the position of the movable body 44.
