This invention concerns the preparation of bacterial monolayers, systems and methods to identify inhibitors of bacterial cell attachment, kits including one or more of the components required to carry out such methods, and methods of inhibiting biofilm formation in a variety of circumstances with previously identified inhibitors and those newly identified by the present methods.
