The information control is provided by a hierarchical system in which buttons (10) allow an item, eg ZDF channel, to be selected from a menu. Information associated with this is shown in a linked menu (4). A further selection allows a move to a lower level menu providing other channel data. The control facility can be built into a remote controller.
