<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control valve with a valve rod whose malfunction due to foreign matter is hardly caused. <P>SOLUTION: The control valve comprises the valve rod 15 having a valve element portion 15a, a valve body 20 having a guide hole 19 through which the valve rod 15 is slidably fitted and a valve chest 21 in which a valve port 22 is provided for the valve element portion 15a to be set therein/removed therefrom, and having a discharge pressure refrigerant inlet 25 provided on the upstream side of the valve port 22 for introducing refrigerant of discharge pressure Pd and a refrigerant outlet 26 provided on the downstream side of the valve port 22 in communication with a crank chamber, an electromagnetic actuator 30 for driving the valve rod 15 in the direction of opening/closing the valve port 22, and a pressure sensitive reacting member 40 for reacting on suction pressure Ps to drive the valve rod 15 in the direction of opening/closing the valve port 22. The valve rod 15 has a small diameter portion 15b and a clearance S is formed between a guide hole 19 and itself. Between a plunger 37 and the outer periphery of the upper part of the valve body 20, a suction pressure refrigerant introduction chamber 23 is formed for introducing refrigerant of suction pressure PS.
