COLOR IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS, ITS CONTROL METHOD AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus capable of easily detecting the irregularity of the angular velocity of an image carrier (photoreceptor drum), adjusting the rotational phase of each image carrier and drastically reducing color slurring.

SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus is equipped with a control means which arithmetically calculates the positional deviation of a detected color relative to a reference color from the result of detection by a positional deviation detection means 44 so as to decide the optimum phase of the rotational phase of the image carrier 1 and adjusts the rotational phase of the image carrier to be the optimum phase. The control means fixes the rotational phase of the image carrier for the reference color and adjusts the rotational phase of the image carrier for the detected color relative to the reference color at every predetermined angle so as to detect the positional deviation of the detected color relative to the reference color at least over one cycle of the irregular driving of the image carrier, and decides the rotational phase having the minimum total sum of the positional deviation as the optimum phase based on detected angle information and the total sum of the positional deviation at the respective detection points of a pattern for detecting the positional deviation in such a case.
