<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of keeping the deterioration of an image carrier to the minimum while securing sufficient conveyance performance for transfer material when performing monochrome printing in an automatic mode. <P>SOLUTION: In the in-line color image forming apparatus, the kind of the transfer material is detected, and the selection of a first monochrome mode (all the image carriers are made to abut) and a second monochrome mode (the image carriers for yellow, magenta and cyan are separated) is judged in accordance with the result of detection. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
