<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine capable of almost eliminating HC from exhaust gases flowing out of a filter. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine comprises the particulate filter 11 disposed in the engine exhaust passage and carrying a catalyst with oxidation capability. The filter comprises a plurality of exhaust gas flow passages extending parallel with each other between the upstream side end and the downstream side end. A part of these exhaust gas flow passages form exhaust gas inflow passages 60 closed at their downstream side ends, and the remaining exhaust gas flow passages form exhaust gas flow passages 61 closed at their upstream side ends. An oxidation capability by the catalyst carried on the peripheral wall surface of at least a part of the peripheral wall surface of the exhaust gas outflow passage is higher than that of the catalyst carried on the peripheral wall surface thereof excluding at least the part of the peripheral wall surface from all the peripheral wall surfaces of both the exhaust gas flow passages. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
