PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method, apparatus and program in which superior detection accuracy can be obtained in the same detection processing for a dot pattern of an arbitrary color by accurately reproducing the dot pattern by performing appropriate monochromatic processing on a read dot pattern including a plurality of color components. SOLUTION: The image processing method, apparatus and program are characterized by converting a color image including a plurality of color components into a monochromatic image by repeating, over all pixels of the color image, the step of selecting a minimum value of each of the color components as a gradation value for each pixel for the color image.
