PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat-type discharge tube of which shape can be kept small even in the case that one of both discharge electrodes is formed on an internal face of a dielectric plate. SOLUTION: Glass substrates 52a and 52b forming both dielectric plates has an almost rectangular surface shape, wherein one corner is cut off and the cut face is sealed with a glass adhesive 53'. In a space in a cut portion 102 formed in this manner, a glass substrate extending portion 52b' extending from the glass substrate 52b, and an external electrode portion 56" formed in one body with a portion 56' as an internal electrode of a transparent electrode 56 and layered on the glass substrate extending portion 52b' are formed.
