An interrogating system (10) can include an interrogating apparatus (12) configured to transmit toward and receive from a subject (20) in a subject position (22), millimeter-wave electromagnetic radiation (24, 26). Such a system (10) can also include a controller (14) configured to operate the interrogating apparatus (12), and produce data representative of a characteristic of the subject (20) from received radiation (26). Some embodiments of such an interrogating system (10) may include interrogating apparatus (12) adapted to be mounted to a passenger vehicle (112) or at a vehicle passenger loading zone (214), to interrogate passengers prior to boarding the vehicle (112).
