PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of accurately detecting the size of an original even if stripe dirt is caused on an original retainer and an original platen glass plate.

SOLUTION: A region discrimination section 513 of an image processing circuit 208 reads an image of a carrying belt after a composite machine 1 completes the reading of the entire original 40 to detect a region including the stripe dirt on the carrying belt 108 extended in the subscanning direction. A region storage section 514 stores positions and the range of the region detected by the region discrimination section 513. An original size detection section 515 references a region excluding the detected region stored in the region storage section 514 to detect the size of the original and inputs it to an image forming section 30.
