<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical component, capable of improving the appearance of an image formed by a light-modulation device, and to provide a projector equipped with the optical component. <P>SOLUTION: The optical part 1 is placed in a beam-exiting side of a liquid crystal panel and comprises a first retardation film 11, a first birefringence plate 12, a second retardation film 13, and a second birefringence plate 14. The first birefringence plate 12 has an optical axis, in a direction along one side of a lattice-shaped light-shielding portion in a black matrix of the liquid crystal panel. The second birefringence plate 14 has an optical axis substantially orthogonal to the optical axis of the first birefringence plate 12. A light L1, exiting through the optical part 1, is split into four beams L7, L8, L9, L10, and the beams L7, L8, L9, L10 are arranged at the vertexes of a square or a rectangle, having side lines along the lattice-shaped light-shielding portion of the black matrix. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
