PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrification/denitrification method in which a nitrite forming nitrification reaction is carried out at all times even when a flow rate is fluctuated.

SOLUTION: An ammonia nitrogen-containing liquid P1 higher than the predetermined temperature is fed to a reaction tank 2 in which the diffusion and non-diffusion of air are repeated in a predetermined cycle. The diffusion time of air is changed according to the fluctuation of the flow rate of the ammonia nitrogen-containing liquid P1 so that the hydraulic residence time of the ammonia nitrogen-containing liquid to be diffused by air is not fluctuated substantially.
