PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balance weight device for an elevator, easily reducing its size, even in the balance weight device provided with wheel for a balance weight device around which a main rope of the elevator is wound. SOLUTION: The balance weight device comprises: a balance weight frame 1 constituted of a pair of vertical frames 1a disposed on both sides, a lower frame 1b connecting lower end parts of the vertical frames, and an upper frame 1c connecting upper end parts of the vertical frames; the balance weight wheel 2 rotatably disposed to the upper frame of the balance weight frame; and a balance weight 3 which is placed on the lower frame of the balance weight frame, and a part of which is disposed above the lower end part of the balance weight wheel.
